A Director is a practitioner in the theatre field who oversees and orchestrates the mounting of a theatre production by unifying various endeavors and aspects of production. The director's function is to ensure the quality and completeness of theatre production and to lead the members of the creative team into realizing their artistic vision for it. The director therefore collaborates with a team of creative individuals and other staff… but this is NOT always true. Sometime, nay often, the Director works much more like a Dictator. They command certain actions and reject ides that would be in best interest of the actor; specifically in the event of releasing an actress from the constraints of service.
The actress finds herself chained to the stage, locked into a type casted role of what she is expected to be. The Director suggests other roles but is seemingly not committed to the advancing of the actress into the positions to obtain them. The aging actress will grow old; have only played the role of an ingénue. Her youth will be spent, her beauty will fade and her whole life will have been a show; never acted out for herself but for others. One the outside she portrays the image of the gentle, sweet, virginal young woman she once was but on the inside she is filled with anger and rage.
She is in NO danger and needs NO protection but due to her lack of independence, she still seems to be waiting to be rescued. The Director can see no better fit for the actress than this… she can work Forever in the role, how dare the actress complain.
